“Cut the fat” is a common phrase in American culture. It can be used in various situations and essentially means you need to get rid of something or someone that is a detriment. For example, a company may have to downsize its workforce and lay off workers so they will “cut the fat” and lay off all of the least productive workers.
In our spiritual life we need to do the same with habits, actions, and attitudes that aren’t helping us in our walk with Christ. Let’s see what the word says.
Hebrews 12:1 - Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, that is set before us (NKJV)
It’s not always easy to get rid of the things that trip us up, especially since we usually develop attachments to them but by God’s grace we can do it. Let’s go forward trusting him to help us “cut the fat” from our lives.
